Music Review: The Goo Goo Dolls - Something for the Rest of Us

                                            

 For 2010, the Goo Goo Dolls offer their ninth studio album, Something for the Rest of Us. It’s been four years since their last album, Let Love In. Continuing with their 90’s sound, the band is incorporating some new sounds, in the way of Bon Jovi and Stone Temple Pilots.

So what does It Sound Like?

 I think the album sounds like a new Bon Jovi or U2. All of the songs have warm guitars and inspirational lyrics. This is something for people who listen to real music. The Goo Goo Dolls still stick to their roots, in the songs “As I Am”,  “Home”, “Notbroken” and “One Night”, just to name to a few.  

Song-By-Song Review

1.Sweetest Lie – 8/10 Great opening, sounds just like Stone Temple Pilots – Between the        Lines.

2.  As I Am – 10/10 Driving interlude, typical Goo Goo Dolls.

3.  Home – 10/10 Great lyrics, catchy chorus, just like Death Cab for Cutie.

4. Notbroken – 10/10 Inspirational, powerful lyrics sounds like U2.

5. One Night – 10/10 Reminiscent of Broadway. Typical Goo Goo Dolls.

6. Nothing Is Real – 8.5/10 Great sound, just like Iris     

7. Now I Hear – 7/10 A different sound.

8. Still Your Song – 10/10 An Iris for this decade. Great vocals and a driving chorus.

9. Something for the Rest of Us – 8/10 One of those power ballads. A real 90’s song.

10. Say You’re Free – 7/10 Bon Jovi-esque guitars in this one. Catchy chorus. Good guitar solo.

11. Hey Ya – 8/10 Typical Goo Goo Dolls. Just like Black Balloon. Excellent guitars in this one.

12. Soldier – 8/10 Great vocal. Very empowering.

Total: 105/120 = 87.5 

            

The Bottom Line

 If You’re a fan of the Goo Goo Dolls,you won’t be disappointed by this album, the songs on this album have the potential for being big hits.

Music Review: Hey Monday, Beneath It All

It’s been two years since the band has released an album. For 2010 the group has done an EP rather than a full album. Their EP entitled “Beneath It All” encorporates a pop-ish sound compared to many punk or alternative offerings.

The first song of the EP, “Wish You Were Here”,  starts off with a beginning reminiscent of Linkin Park’s “What I’ve Done” and the vocals are rather country-esque in the way of Taylor Swift.

“Where is My Head” would have to be my favorite from “Beneath It All”. With lyrics like this, “Today, I told myself that I would control myself, But my heart and zipper seems to disagree.” I find it somewhat amusing. It's a great hook that I haven't heard from a song in a while. 

Song By Song Review:

1.   Wish You Were Here - 7/10  – (not the Incubus song) Great beginning sample, country-esque sound.     

2.   Wondergirl – 7/10 – 90’s guitars are present. More pop-ish, like a female simple plan.

3.   I Don’t Wanna Dance – 10/10 – Great beats, lyrics and an 80’s like sound. Almost like The Sounds.

4.   Hangover – 5/10 – Again with the 90’s guitars? With a chorus only kids in middle school would appreciate. Like JoJo.

5.   Mr. Pushover – 7/10 – Excellent lyrics. Not so great backing vocals. Almost too pop.

6.   Where Is My Head – 10/10 – Great lyrics, great vocals and a sound like a female led Blink-182. Addictive chorus and nice instrumentals.

7.   Fall Into Me – 8/10 – Paramore –esque vibe going on in this one. Great chorus.

Total 54/70 = 77% 

The Bottom Line

“Beneath It All” is okay, but with the band’s more pop heavy approach, it seems that it just doesn’t compare to other more mainstream female led bands such as Paramore or The Sounds.

I would suggest listening to The Sounds’ “ Dying to Say This to You” and “Living in America” as well as Paramore’s “Riot”, for a more alternative rock sound.

McGangBang- SEX IN A SANDWICH

No, it's not what you think. Not something out of a 90's porno and definitely not something out of a red light district video store. Nomenclature aside, the McGangBang is a sandwich that demands respect from those worthy of it's gastronomic epicness.

What is the McGangBang? The McGangBang is made from two sandwiches of McDonald's menu, the Double Cheeseburger & the McChicken. One takes the cheeseburger, splits the top and bottom leaving only the top and bottom buns with their beef patties, respectively. Immediately the McChicken joins in, (as you might expect) placing the whole McChicken (buns & all) on the bottom half of the cheeseburger, then reassembling the top portion of the said burger. Voila the McGangBang.

So how does it taste?
Let me tell you this, and I'll put it bluntly, it's comparable to sex. Just like everyone's favorite pastime, when eating the McGangBang, it's not good unless it's hot and sloppy.  You have to open wide ( ur mouth that is) to take it all in. Once you take a bite, let the juices flow all in your mouth. Savor it's taste and take another bite. Be careful though, once you go through half of it, you're greeted by a surge of creamy white mayo courtesy of the McChicken. One hell of an experience.
I felt full after eating my McGangBang, and just like finishing sex, all I wanted to do was sleep.

Any tips for first timers?
Certainly! Those kinky enough to try this sultry sandwich should try to remove the buns from the McChicken so you can take a bite out of it easier.  :)

Would you call the McGangBang an Aphrodisiac?
Yes, in every way. I believe it gives more stamina and it makes girl's panties wet. Clearly it makes both sexes aroused. I like to think of it as a burger form of viagra. Maybe add some cinnamon and call it a day Ladies? BTW cinnamon is one powerful aphrodisiac.

Is the McGangBang against my religion?
HELL FUCKING NO!!!!!! (unless ur like a terrorist who hates erotically named food, then yes)
No it's not. It's perfectly fine for anybody to tryout.

Are there any side effects when eating the McGangBang?
Yes; feeling of euphoria, pleasure, content, and hallucinations of yourself partying on Mars with Ronald McDonald and the Gang.
Complications include; high blood pressure and the need for more McGangBangs.

QUALITY 9.8/10 (I had better McGangBangs before)

iPhone APP REVIEW: Splinter Cell Conviction

Of the many app GAMELOFT has developed, Splinter Cell Conviction stands out from the usual fair.
Excellent game play, smooth graphics and a plethora of levels are some things you can expect from this app.

To me replayability is always key to any game from the appstore. and replayability it has. There's nothing like shooting terrorists in class or while on the go.

Loads of weapons from ak's to ar's & shotguns. SMG's and pistols. One thing I didn't like was when you see a weapon available to pick up you can only use that one gun. I'd like more of a weapons hold system,
but still very realistic. Pistols & SMG's with silencers are at a ballistic disability compared to their non-suppressed variants, as the additional parts do a number to the damage inflicted. VERY FUCKING REAL!!!
